Excavation
The cement mine utilization created a large, almost 30-hectare trough and the mining machinery exposed the prehistoric geological strata with the history of evolution preserved in there. Over the years, the environs of Krasiejów – once the site of a large river estuary – accumulated a collection of plant and animal fossil, including the fossil of terrestrial and fresh-water vertebrates of the Mesozoic era.
The paleontological discovery site immediately started to attract scientists, who in the years 2000 and 2001 began regular architectural excavation works on site. Exploration of but a small fraction of this enormous animal grave yard of 230 million years proved the presence of reptiles and amphibia of pre-dinosaur era.
